Once it was the envy of the world. Now, with ever-lengthening waiting lists, doctors’ strikes and under-funding, the NHS is undeniably in a critical condition.

So what needs to be done to ensure we have a healthcare system fit for purpose in the 21st century?

As part of its Tackle the Issues series of debates on the key issues of our time, Ropetackle brings together a panel of experts to look at the problems and the solutions. Chaired by Professor Malcolm Reed, Dean of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, the panel will include: Charles Godden, former consultant paediatrician and author of Not In The Best of Health*, a hard-hitting critique of the NHS; Sally Gainsbury, Senior Policy Analyst at the Nuffield Trust and former journalist at the Financial Times and the Health Service Journal; and Dr Jo Monjardino, senior GP at Shoreham’s Northbourne Medical Centre.

As well as the panel discussion, there will be a Question and Answer session, giving audience members an opportunity to address the panel and to share their views.
