Tackle The Issues Promotes Healthy Debate

Once it was the envy of the world. Now, with ever-lengthening waiting lists, doctors’ strikes and under-funding, the NHS is undeniably in a critical condition.

So what needs to be done to ensure we have a healthcare system fit for purpose in the 21st century?

As part of its Tackle the Issues series of debates on the key issues of our time, Ropetackle brings together a panel of experts to look at the problems and the solutions. Chaired by Professor Malcolm Reed, Dean of the Brighton and Sussex Medical School, the panel will include: Charles Godden, former consultant paediatrician and author of Not In The Best of Health*, a hard-hitting critique of the NHS; Sally Gainsbury, Senior Policy Analyst at the Nuffield Trust and former journalist at the Financial Times and the Health Service Journal; and Dr Jo Monjardino, senior GP at Shoreham’s Northbourne Medical Centre.

As well as the panel discussion, there will be a Question and Answer session, giving audience members an opportunity to address the panel and to share their views.

Tackle the Issues – Health is at Ropetackle Arts Centre on Thursday 18th January at 7.30pm. Tickets are £10.

For further details and tickets, click here or call the Ropetackle Box Office on 01273 464440.

Tackle the Issues is a series of joint Ropetackle, Shoreham Wordfest and Sussex University events addressing important issues of our time.
*Not in the Best of HealthThe forthright and entertaining memoirs of an NHS paediatrician describes a medical career stretching from that of a fledgling student, to that of a worn out and disillusioned senior consultant paediatrician. In Charles Godden’s sharply observed memoir, stories of sick children and those who treated them are described with candour, humour and insight gained over three decades working in hospitals stretching from Papua New Guinea to the UK.
