Thank you, Lesley’s Kitchen!

Lesley and Barry (aka Lesley’s Kitchen) have reached the end of era as they wrap up the pre-show suppers so enjoyed by many of our customers. The smell and taste of a wholesome two-course meal was, we know, a ritual for many ahead of a sit-down live show, or evening film, and an important part of our offering. Around 18 months ago, it sadly became too much for Lesley in the light of some health issues.
With her excellent cooking, wonderful hospitality and lovely way with customers, Lesley’s Kitchen became a Ropetackle fixture for many years. Lesley’s kindness, flexibility and big smile was always on show and we really do miss her and Barry working their magic in the kitchen. (Those chocolate brownies really are the stuff of dreams!) It’s great that we still get to see this ace couple here, at gigs and events, and providing meals for our bands, but we know they became good friends to many Ropetackle customers and will be greatly missed.
Lesley asked us to pass on this note to everyone. And in true Lesley style, she has suggested someone to pick up the apron and bring the suppers back. Watch this space!
Lesley and Barry, from us all, thank you so much.
” As many of you will know, I had to stop offering pre-show suppers while waiting for a hip replacement.
“What was originally expected to be a break of just a few months turned into a much longer journey. While waiting for surgery, my body decided to throw all sorts of complications my way. Around 18 months later, I now find myself with two new hips and ongoing health challenges.
“Although I have fully recovered from the surgeries themselves, I have been left with far less energy than I had hoped for and am not as pain-free as I would like. After a great deal of thought, it is with a heavy heart that I have decided that I will not be returning to provide the pre-show suppers at Ropetackle.
“Barry and I wanted to take this opportunity to express our heartfelt thanks to each and every one of our customers. You have all been so supportive, appreciative, and encouraging throughout the years. It has meant more to us than words can say.
“A special thank you must go to Barry, without whom none of this would have been possible. Not only has he been an incredible help in the kitchen, but he has also been the financial brains behind the business. Left to me, that side of things would have been a complete disaster! Most importantly, he has been my greatest source of support throughout this journey.
It has been a genuine pleasure to meet so many wonderful people, get to know you, and, of course, feed you. We truly could not have wished for better customers.
“I would also like to extend my sincere thanks to everyone at Ropetackle — the staff, volunteers, and especially Anne, who first invited me to take on this venture. Thank you for your encouragement, support, and friendship over the years.
“Ropetackle is such a special place, and we are incredibly fortunate to have it here in Shoreham. I am still able to support the centre occasionally by providing meals for visiting bands, although three or four meals at a time is now about my limit!
“Thank you all once again for your kindness, loyalty, and support. We look forward to seeing many of you at future gigs and events at Ropetackle.
With love and gratitude,
Lesley & Barry
