Summer talks at Ropetackle: Ideas, insights and inspiration

There’s something truly exciting about hearing from speakers who open our eyes to new ideas and experiences. This summer at Ropetackle Arts Centre, we’re thrilled to welcome a series of remarkable guests—authors, broadcasters, and thinkers—whose work spans everything from climate justice to political intrigue and pop culture.

Laurie Parsons: Carbon Colonialism

Tuesday 3 June, 7pm
To mark World Environment Day, we welcome writer and researcher Laurie Parsons, presenting his new book Carbon Colonialism In this powerful and eye-opening talk, Parsons explores how wealthier countries shift their carbon emissions to poorer nations—appearing to hit green targets while causing environmental harm elsewhere.
Rather than offering an abstract lecture on climate change, Parsons shares real human stories—voices often left out of the conversation. “Bridging the divide between global scale and lived experience,” he explains, is what motivated this vital work.
Presented in partnership with City Books, this promises to be a compelling and deeply moving event.

Steve Richards: Rock ’n’ Roll Politics

Wednesday 26 June, 7pm
A firm favourite at Ropetackle, journalist and political commentator Steve Richards returns with his hugely popular show Rock ’n’ Roll Politics. With humour, insight, and plenty of behind-the-scenes gossip, Steve pulls back the curtain on British politics.
Always entertaining, always enlightening, this interactive evening offers a rare chance to explore the personalities, tensions, and decisions shaping our political landscape. And yes—there’s even a chance to cast your own vote!

Paul Sinha: Once Sinha Lifetime

Thursday 27 June, 8pm
Quiz fans and comedy lovers are in for a treat with Paul Sinha—comedian, writer, doctor, and star of ITV’s The Chase. In this warm and funny show, Paul shares his personal journey through life, medicine, stand-up, and television.
Audiences will have a chance to ask questions and purchase signed copies of his new autobiography, Once Sinha Lifetime. Expect sharp wit, thoughtful reflections, and a genuinely intimate evening with one of the UK’s most versatile performers.
