Gillespie, who joins Bob Dylan’s lyrical bite and languid delivery to the forthrightness of Joni Mitchell, with a little rap-like percussiveness thrown in, is an original. ~ John Fordham, The Guardian
Anglo-American songstress Sarah Gillespie has received wide-spread critical acclaim for her three albums that mix elements of jazz, folk and blues with her trademark streetwise lyricism.
She has toured extensively in the USA, Europe and the UK playing theatres, arts centres, festivals and venues building a snowballing fan-base enchanted by what critics have described as her ‘outstanding, hilarious and explosive’ live shows. Her debut collection of poetry, ‘Queen Ithaca Blues’ was published in November 2017 by Albion Press as part of the London Jazz Festival.
Gillespie’s 4th album ‘Wishbones’ is launched at the Southbank Centre’s Purcell Room and features her dynamite band of collaborators: Mercury nominated composer Kit Downes – piano, James Maddren – drums and Ruth Goller – bass and Mercury nominated Laura Jurd – trumpet.
