About this event
‘You're my best friend…’
Wealthy widow Daisy (Jessica Tandy) crashes her car and so her son determines that she should no longer drive, and installs Hoke (Morgan Freeman) as her chauffeur. Proud Daisy isn't keen, but gradually she accepts Hoke as the film explores the relationship between the elderly Jewish American woman and the Black American driver against a background of difficult but changing attitudes to race and religion in the Southern States. The film won four Oscars, including best picture and best actress, making Jessica Tandy the oldest recipient of that award.
