Mrs Mantell’s Tooth (and the discovery of the Dinosaurs)

About this event

IDOLRICH THEATREROTTO brings to the stage the turbulent story of Gideon and Mary Anne Mantell – whose revelations astonished an explosive world of fossil identification and 19th century scientific discovery.

The performance follows the puzzling first steps from quarry findings made by Mary Ann in Sussex, to the statues which were eventually erected at Crystal Palace in 1852. Mary Ann Mantell was one of a number of women instrumental in advancing the infant science of geology by illustration and saurian verification alongside her husband whilst rearing a family – in a house filled with bones!

The show features the trappings and melodrama of Victorian theatre, puppetry, toy theatre and the Magic Lantern screen whilst tracing the development of palaeontology. MRS MANTELL'S TOOTH follows themes in the company's two previous productions: MYSTERRASAUR and FABULOUS FOOTPRINTS which celebrate the bi-centenary of dinosaur discovery.

Lasting 58 minutes the performance is inclusive and suitable for audiences from 8 years and upwards.

Children attending the show can purchase tickets for the workshop at 3.45pm for £5.
