After the hazy, lazy days of summer, autumn brings a welcome return to routine, but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. As the evenings draw in, it’s a good time to get creative, try something new, stay active and, perhaps most importantly, get out and connect with the local community.

At Ropetackle, the autumn programme is designed to do just that, with live music, films, workshops, courses, family activities and plenty of opportunities to meet up over coffee and cake.

There’s something happening for all ages, from yoga, Pilates, singing, creative writing and theatre groups to after-school drama and music classes. New parents can also join Little Glow, a baby sensory group designed to give little ones a stimulating start while creating an opportunity for parents to meet and connect.

The monthly Saturday Sessions in the Rose Petal Café return too, offering free acoustic lunchtime concerts featuring local performers – another chance to discover some of the musical talent on the doorstep.

Autumn highlights

The live programme gets off to a high-profile start with Jimmy Nail making his Ropetackle debut on Sunday 4 October. Best known for his roles in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet and Spender, Nail will combine music with stories from a remarkable career in television, film and music.

Singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot arrives on Friday 9 October, bringing more than 25 years of music-making and a career that has taken her from being dropped after her debut album to BRIT and Ivor Novello nominations. Her songs have been recorded by artists including Kylie Minogue, while her own fiercely loyal following has stayed with her throughout a career built on persistence as much as talent.

On Friday 23 October, Guy Chambers – the songwriter behind many of Robbie Williams’ biggest hits – joins an ensemble of world-class musicians, including Brighton Beach Boys’ Charlotte Glasson, for an evening combining his own music with reimagined 1960s and 70s soul in an R&B style.

And there’s more! 

And that’s just the beginning. The autumn and winter programme also features John Otway & Wild Willy Barrett, Don Letts, Graham Parker, The Long Ryders, Stone Foundation, Ferocious Dog, Wishbone Ash, Thea Gilmore, Tom Robinson, Barb Jungr, El Pony Pisador, Eleanor McEvoy, The Rezillos, Gary Stewart’s Graceland, Kast-Off Kinks and Nine Below Zero/Dr Feelgood.

Alongside the music, there’s comedy, theatre, film, talks, storytelling and family entertainment including PANTO – offering plenty of reasons to stay local and make the most of the darker months.
