Gaza mon amour (2020) Tarzan & Arab Nasser
Gaza, 2020. Sixty-year-old fisherman Issa is secretly in love with Siham, a dressmaker at the market. An ancient statue of Apollo, which Issa randomly finds in his fishing net, brings both hope and troubles. Will he ever be able to declare his intentions for Siham?
Combining the sweet universal sentiments of romance, with the strange yet true story of the Apollo statue lifted from the Gazan sea, the film is a tender depiction of an everyday Gaza that is now perhaps lost. With accomplished acting from the renowned Salim Dau and Hiam Abbas, beautiful cinematography and a touch of humour, the film reminds us of the power of love during political turmoil.
