About this event
A joyful puppetry adventure for young children and their grown ups
Flyaway Katie is a tender, playful story about feeling a little bit grey and discovering the colours that imagination can bring.
Based on the much loved picture book by Polly Dunbar, and brought to life by the wonderful Long Nose Puppets, this gentle theatre show uses puppets, music and movement to open up a child’s world of wonder. With original music by Tom Gray of Gomez, it is rich, warm and full of surprises.
Katie starts off alone in her bedroom, watching the bright birds in the picture on her wall. They seem so colourful, so full of life. Slowly, beautifully, her imagination begins to take flight. Along the way she meets an unforgettable cast of characters, from a charming caterpillar to bold lions, buzzing bees and bursts of colour that fill the stage.
This is storytelling at child height, calm enough for very young audiences, yet magical enough to keep everyone in the room completely absorbed. Puppets appear, disappear and transform, scales shift, colours bloom and the music gently carries the story forward.
After the show, children are invited to stay for a relaxed Meet the Puppets session, a chance to spend a little time with the characters and enjoy the world of Flyaway Katie up close.
