Jon Boden has become the standout performer of his generation of traditional folk artists, while building a repertoire that extends far beyond the boundaries of the genre.
Most recognisably, he is the lead singer and one of the principal arrangers of Bellowhead, the multi-award-winning band widely regarded as one of the most exciting live acts of the last twenty years in any genre. Bellowhead have achieved a level of critical and commercial success unmatched by any other band working in English traditional folk music, with sell-out performances at the Royal Albert Hall and regular airplay on mainstream radio.
Since 2009, Jon has also performed regularly with his own band, The Remnant Kings, focusing on his original songs from a trilogy of post-climate-change concept albums: Songs From The Floodplain (2009), Afterglow (2017), and Last Mile Home (2021). Alongside this original material, The Remnant Kings have recorded two albums of traditional folk material, including the epic ballad Rose in June (2019) and Parlour Ballads (2022), a collection of mostly nineteenth-century songs reimagined for the twenty-first century.
Within the traditional folk scene, Jon has continued to perform in his foundational duo with fellow Bellowhead member John Spiers. In 2021, Spiers & Boden resumed touring and released Fallow Ground, a new album of traditional English songs and tunes.
Throughout a long and varied career, Jon has embraced a wide range of projects, including a memorable appearance as the singing busker in Richard Curtis's film About Time (2013). His recording of “How Long Will I Love You” from the film’s soundtrack has been streamed more than 32 million times.
In 2010, Jon embarked on the ambitious A Folk Song A Day project, recording and releasing one folk song every day for an entire year. The project proved hugely successful and influential, contributing significantly to the resurgence of social folk singing.
Jon’s 2027 solo tour coincides with the publication of the book version of A Folk Song A Day by Faber Music. This major undertaking builds on the original project and features 365 songs personally transcribed and introduced by Jon, bringing together years of research, performance, and dedication to the folk tradition.
