Bandleader and trumpeter Chris Coull hosts a relaxing series of Sunday morning jazz concerts.

Taking place on the first Sunday of the month, Chris will be joined by a talented local band and special guest musicians, performing a entertaining and varied show each month.

Sun 5 May – Imogen Ryall Ensemble
Renowned vocalist Imogen Ryall is well knowns for her inimitable vocal style and ‘vocalese’ skills, which have led to her adding lyrics to many of the tunes from the back catalogue of jazz standards. Expect some twists and turns on some new tunes as well as original takes on old favourites. With Chris Coull (trumpet), Mark Edwards (piano), Paul Whitten (bass), and Angus Bishop (drums).

Sun 2 June – Lucy Pickering Band
Vocalist Lucy Pickering is well known to Sussex audiences from her appearances with Chris Coull’s Big Band as well as her own band Court and Spark; celebrating the music of Joni Mitchel and Carol King. For this month’s Sunday jazz she brings her own inimitable style to swing classics and jazz standards. Featuring host and trumpeter Chris Coull, Dan Sheppard on bass, and Joe Edwards on drums.

Sun 7 July – Georgia Mancio Quintet
An all-star band featuring multi-award-winning jazz vocalist Georgia Mancio, world-renowned musicians Mark Edwards (piano), and Dave Ohm (drums), plus Chris Coull on trumpet and Dan Sheppard on bass. Georgia has won Parliamentary Jazz Awards for Best Vocalist (2021) and Best Album (2020), and received nominations at the Jazz FM, British Jazz, and Urban Music Awards. “[Mancio] has everything covered – technical mastery, expressive range and a remarkable versatility” ~ The Observer ★★★★

Chris Coull has played with and led bands throughout the world, including 15 years as Director of Doha Jazz in Qatar. Melodic and thoughtful, his approach takes inspiration from classic 50s and 60s players. He has performed many times at Ropetackle, including his own shows celebrating Miles Davis and Duke Ellington.
