The Ropetackle Film Club is a welcoming community film club based at Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham-by-Sea.

Members enjoy ten carefully selected films each season on the big screen and have the opportunity to help choose future films, bring guests and become part of a friendly local community of film lovers.

How does the Ropetackle Film Club work?

The Film Club runs from September to June, with one film shown each month, usually on the second Thursday at 7.30pm.

Members pay a single annual fee which covers all ten films in the season and gives them the opportunity to nominate and vote for films in future seasons.

Is Ropetackle wheelchair accessible?

Ropetackle is wheelchair accessible. The foyer and auditorium have flat, step free access throughout. The box office desk and foyer bar have lowered counters, and there is a fully accessible toilet.

How much does Film Club membership cost?

Membership costs £40 for the season, which includes ten films from September to June.

Friends and Patrons of Ropetackle receive a discounted membership rate of £35.

What is included with Film Club membership?

Membership includes:

  • Ten films for one annual fee
  • The opportunity to nominate and vote for films
  • A voice and vote at the AGM
  • Access to the Film Club Facebook group
  • The opportunity to bring guests
  • Complimentary drinks on selected evenings
  • Eligibility to join the Film Club committee if spaces are available
Can I bring a guest to the Film Club?

Yes. Members are welcome to bring guests to Film Club screenings.

Guest tickets currently cost £8 per film.

How are the films chosen?

One of the most popular features of the Film Club is that members help shape the programme. Members nominate films each year and vote for their favourites.

The Film Club committee then creates a balanced programme from the most popular choices, ensuring a varied selection of genres, styles and eras.

Do I need to pre-book my seat for Film Club screenings?

No. One of the joys of Film Club is its simplicity – once you’ve joined, there’s no need to book individual films. Simply turn up on the night and enjoy the screening.

At the start of the season, you’ll receive a full list of film titles and screening dates so you can add them to your calendar. Members also receive an email before each screening with details about the forthcoming film.

Can I join the Film Club mid-season or do I need to wait?

You don’t have to wait until the start of a new season to join the Film Club. New members are welcome throughout the year, although joining at the beginning of the season offers the best value, as your membership includes all ten films.

If you’re interested in joining part way through the season, please contact us and we’ll be happy to help.

Do I need to be a film expert to join?

Not at all. The Film Club welcomes anyone who enjoys watching films on the big screen. Many members enjoy discovering films they may never have chosen themselves, while others simply enjoy a friendly evening out and the shared cinema experience.

Is the Ropetackle Film Club welcoming to new members?

Absolutely. Whether you’re a lifelong film lover or simply enjoy the occasional cinema trip, you’ll find a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

There is no expectation to join discussions or have specialist film knowledge – just a love of great films and the big screen experience.

Why join a film club instead of streaming films at home?

Film Club is about more than watching films. It’s the experience of seeing films as they were meant to be seen – on the big screen with full surround sound, discovering classics and hidden gems, sharing reactions with others and becoming part of a welcoming local community.

What makes the Ropetackle Film Club different?

The Ropetackle Film Club combines great cinema with community. Members help choose future films, enjoy exclusive screenings, discover films they may never have selected themselves and become part of a friendly local group with a shared love of film.

Where is the Ropetackle Film Club based?

The Film Club takes place at Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham-by-Sea, West Sussex. The venue is easily accessible from Shoreham, Worthing, Brighton and surrounding areas.

I'm new to the area. Is Film Club a good way to meet people?

Yes. Many members enjoy Film Club not only for the films but also for the welcoming atmosphere and shared experience. It’s a wonderful way to meet people with similar interests and become part of the local arts community.

When shall I arrive? What time doors open?

The venue opens one hour before the start time.

Doors to the auditorium will open as soon as the technicians, and volunteers are ready, typically between 15-45 minutes before the show start time. The bar will be open for pre-show drinks an hour before the film starts.

What if I am late?

In most cases, we can accommodate latecomers. However, unallocated seating means you may not be able to sit together and may have to sit at the back. Occasionally, you may have to wait until an appropriate time to enter the auditorium.

What if I don't like every film?

That’s perfectly fine – and it’s actually part of the fun of Film Club! One of the joys of membership is discovering films you might never have chosen yourself. The programme includes a variety of genres, styles and eras, all chosen through member nominations and voting.

Many members tell us that some of their favourite films have been ones they never expected to enjoy.
