Wordfest: Sussex Songs of Sea, Seasons and Revolt

About this event

A concert of Sussex folk songs with Liz Overs and The Duck Pond Sailors

£10 (or included in Sussex Lost and Found day ticket)

Liz Overs sings traditional and modern folk songs inspired by local stories, legends and places. Her solo album Nightjar is released later this year, and she also provided the hauntingly beautiful music for the Nettle Dress film featured in last year’s Shoreham Wordfest. Some of her songs can be heard on the Chalk Horse Music website and her Mostly Folk radio show.

Chris Hare’s Duck Pond Sailors part of this evening’s show will revel in boisterous Sussex songs including rebel songs from the English Civil War onwards. Audience participation may be encouraged!

They have a wide repertoire of Sussex songs of the sea and other folk music. They say “We often sing them whilst drinking in local ale houses and have no aim other than singing well and drinking better. We are based on the South Coast of England where the sun shines and the beards hang low.”

In 2023 they released a new album "Urban Navigators."
