TICKET PRICE: £15
“Amazing premier, full of energy with incredible music and storyline, playing to an enthralled packed house. A must-see that will have you on your feet!” – Colin Matthews, Chair of the Hurst Festival
Join us on a journey from the deep South to the jazz clubs of 1940s Harlem, in this gripping jazz narrative of the High Priest of Bebop, Thelonious Monk, with a swinging, live 12-piece big band and an exceptional cast courtesy of the Mark Travers Project.
Eccentric and brilliant, Monk notoriously hated interviews, would spontaneously dance during his performances and installed his Steinway in the kitchen. Adored and teased by his wife Nellie ,patronised by the equally eccentric Baroness Rothschild and her 302 cats, and beloved by John Coltrane, he remains one of jazz’s greatest innovators, the second most recorded jazz composer of all time and one of only five jazz musicians to ever grace the cover of TIME magazine.
Expect an illuminating evening.
