The Hits of ’68

Thursday 18th October 2018 - Starts 8pm

Following the sell-out shows Bowie: Golden Years and Hunky Dory, The Seven Dials Collective, including Brighton Beach Boys: Glen Richardson, Steve Wrigley and Charlotte Glasson bring to you a show full of hits. It’s the No. 1 Hits of 1968.

A lot happened 50 years ago: Astronauts orbited the moon for the first time on Apollo 8, Dr Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy were assassinated and the Vietnam War rumbled on, sparking civil unrest and riots across the USA. The first successful heart transplant was performed, the Post Office introduced First Class, the Boeing 747 ‘Jumbo’ jet made its maiden flight, The Beatles released ‘The White Album’, the Kray Twins were arrested, London Bridge was sold for a million pounds and re-erected in Arizona.

In music, 1968 had a host of classic No. 1s in the UK including:

The Beatles- Hello Goodbye, Lady Madonna, Hey Jude,
The Rolling Stones- Jumpin’ Jack Flash,
Love Affair- Everlasting Love,
The Beach Boys- Do it Again while, in the USA –
Otis Redding- Sitting on the Dock of the Bay,
Hugh Masekela- Grazing in the Grass, and
Simon and Garfunkel- Mrs Robinson,
Marvin Gaye- I heard in through The Grapevine, and
Fire, What a Wonderful World, … the list goes on.

We’re going to celebrate the best of music from 1968.
