The Wellington Wailers Sea Shanty Crew
Over the years, the Shoreham-born Wailers have seen built a reputation for entertaining performances featuring boisterous singing and close harmonies.
Led by their irrepressible Shantyman, Mike Green, they present a highly individualised acapella renderings of songs and shanties from the days of sail. Days when ships were propelled around the world with only the strength of the wind and the sinews of the men aboard, for whom a song lightened the heavy work required to keep these massive ships on course and afloat.
As well as their regular sessions in local pub Duke of Wellington, the Wailers have recently been found singing at such events as the Newhaven Beer Festival, South Downs Folk Festival, Brighton Fishing museum and regularly feature at the International Sea Shanty Festival at Falmouth Through their gigs and sales of their two CDs, the Wailers have donated a massive £7000 to the RNLI Shoreham by Sea Lifeboat Station.
They are now looking forward to their fourth appearance on the Ropetackle stage to once again regale the audience with songs featuring maidens won and lost, bad food and worse treatment, deaths at sea, fish caught and battles won!
