Local and Live presents: Sussex Bonfire Boys – We Burn to Remember by Chris Hare

Chris Hare leads us back into Victorian Sussex and tells of the nights of revelry and disorder that occurred regularly in our Sussex towns and villages. In the last half of the 19th century, “Bonfire Boys’ in Sussex turned every November 5th into a night of unbridled anarchy – seizing the streets like an invading army.

As well as reading from newspaper accounts and other eye-witness statements from the time, Chris will play extracts from taped oral history interviews of people who remembered the last vestiges of old Bonfire Night tradition in the county.

Part of the Local and Live mini-festival, a joint initiative between Ropetackle Arts Centre and Shoreham Wordfest, to celebrate the creativity of local writers, musicians, actors and poets and the return to live performance.

LOCAL AND LIVE FESTIVAL PASS: Enjoy 10 events* for just £60. Discount applied at the checkout.  *Excludes: The Noise Next Door, The Snow Queen and Frank Greene Band and The Beta Rays.
