Luminous Tales presents Susannah and the Sunflower

You’ve heard of Jack and the Beanstalk well… why should boys have all the fun! This is a quirky take on the traditional tale where Susannah climbs a Sunflower, comes face to face with a Giant, his magic harp, a chicken who lays golden a egg and … a very different story unfolds.

A gentle and enchanting adventure about unexpected encounters and unusual friendships. Everyone knows Giants love dancing and eating ice-cream but even Giants can feel lonely.

Susannah discovers the rewards of helping people and avoids a bumpy landing when the chicken comes to her rescue. And who would have thought the snails at the bottom of the garden would have so much to say about her comings and goings…? This story is told using simple, low-tech shadow theatre to create imaginative and playful images. A celebration of all things that grow tall and dream big for everyone over three.

What the audiences say:

“This was just wonderful – skillful and full of imagination”

“The props and use of projection particularly were amazing”

“Our kids got right into the vibe as soon as they came in and danced and swirled around, it was lovely to watch”

“Clever shadow puppetry and imagery”

“A good chance to see innovative puppet theatre at close quarters”

“We loved it! So beautiful and wonderful to see something that was simple yet incredibly effective.”
