South Coast Jazz Festival 2015 – Jazz Vocal Celebration

Jazz Vocal Celebration

Featuring: Liane Carroll + Ian Shaw + Joe Stilgoe + Vox Choir (Lewes Old Grammar School)

A living legend on the British Jazz scene, Liane Carroll‘s powerful, addictive voice has moved audiences from Hastings to Hawaii. Her stunning recording output has seen her receive universal recognition including Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Album at the BBC Jazz Awards. She is a phenomenal talent on piano and her shows are renowned for their variety of raucous wit and deeply poignant interpretations of iconic and original ballads. We are thrilled to have her at our first festival!

Ian Shaw Sings Joni Mitchell: multi-award winning jazz singer and pianist, Shaw, has been a life-long fan of the legendary Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame artist Joni Mitchell. This solo show, adapted to just Shaw’s voice at the piano, explores her works, from her earliest youthful confessionals through her angsty travel songs, to her more recent depictions of religions and the environment. ‘Shaw captures the poetry in Joni’s songs with an eye-watering vocal range and bucketloads of soul’ ~ BBC

Joe Stilgoe is a singer, pianist and songwriter, constantly touring the world with his band and as a solo act, having appeared at venues including the Royal Festival Hall, Barbican, and in jazz clubs from New York to Berlin to Kuala Lumpur. His 2011 solo debut at the Edinburgh Fringe was a sell-out success and garnered much critical acclaim. His 2012 album We Look To The Stars went straight to the top of the jazz charts, earned rave reviews from national press and attracted new fans from Tim Minchin to Chris Evans to Sir Michael Parkinson.

The evening will begin with the Vox Choir from Lewes Old Grammar School, led by Rachel Munro.
