Shoreham’s Maritime History with Trevor Povey
An illustrated talk by Trevor Povey about Shoreham and its seafaring past, the layout of the town and the various shipbuilding yards that were operating on the riverbank. Shoreham has been a port since earliest times linking Roman London with France and Spain. Shipbuilding was the main occupation until steel ships replaced timber in the 1880s. Follow the ups and downs of a once great seafaring town.
Part of the Local and Live mini-festival, a joint initiative between Ropetackle Arts Centre and Shoreham Wordfest, to celebrate the creativity of local writers, musicians, actors and poets and the return to live performance.
