Sussex Modernism Shoreham Wordfest Ropetackle

An illustrated talk by Dr. Alistair Davies from the University Of Sussex, exploring the lives and works of the many celebrated modernist writers and artists who lived in Sussex during the last century, including: Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant at Charleston Farmhouse; Virginia and Leonard Woolf at Rodmell; Eric Gill and David Jones at Ditchling; Peggy Angus at Furlongs; and Lee Miller and Roland Penrose at Farley Farm House.

Covering a wide span from the First World War to the 1960s, Alistair will discuss what drew these figures to Sussex, how they responded to the world around them, and the contributions they made to the modernist movement in Britain.
