Shoreham Wordfest: Farley Arts Trust Exhibition
Saturday 21st October 2017 - Saturday 21st October 2017
An exhibition drawn from Farleys’ unique collection of outstanding photographs, curated by Ian Chance and Antony Penrose, bringing to life key aspects of the lives and work of Lee Miller and Roland Penrose.
Linked to the Surrealist and Modernist movements in art, literature and philosophy, these photographs provide a moving insight into the world they experienced and the people they knew in the middle years of the twentieth century. Almost all the photographs are by Lee Miller or Roland Penrose. A detailed, explanatory caption is framed with each photograph to help stimulate appreciation, understanding and further thought about the times through which Roland Penrose and Lee Miller lived. Catalogues are available with an introduction and essay written by the curators, showing all included photographs and captions.
The exhibition is part of our exploration of Sussex Modernism and is linked to several other events including The Angel & The Fiend – a rehearsed reading about Lee Miller’s life on Sunday 15th October.
There will be a talk on the exhibition on Saturday 7th October, and a talk on Women In Photography with photojournalists Marilyn Stafford and Nina Emmett on Saturday 14th October. Also a special Shoreham Wordfest tour to Farleys on Thursday 19th October.
Open 10am – 5pm: Mondays – Saturdays
Location: Skyway Gallery, Shoreham Centre, Pond Road, Shoreham, BN43 5WU
