Shoreham Port – Past, Present and Future

Tuesday 26th February 2019 - Starts 7.30pm

Local historian, Trevor Povey, will give a fascinating talk about the history of the Port from the early 20th century until the 1940s, focusing in particular on the part the Port played in the two World Wars: vital imports; ship building; D-day, and the legendary “Mystery Towers.” The talk will be illustrated with archive photos.

Shoreham Port’s chief executive, Rodney Lunn, will provide an insight into the life of the Port, including the shipping trade; the origins and destinations of cargoes; and how the Port serves the region. He will also look at the Port’s energy generation, and his vision for the future with the imminent era of electric vessels and the prospect of coastal shipping taking pressure off the roads.

He will also discuss how will the Port will guard against the effects of climate change with rising sea levels and more severe storms causing major tidal surges.

This event is proudly sponsored by DMH Stallard
