Sharon Lewis and crack*a*jack*crow

Two great acts, both playing for the first time at Ropetackle. Come and show your support!

Sharon Lewis

Much revered for her haunting vocals and poignant lyrics, Sharon Lewis (formerly of female duo Pooka) writes and performs songs on piano, guitar and ukulele. She has released two solo albums: The Hour Lilies and Roses At The Top, and an EP entitled Simple Things.

Her music has been described as “strong medicine for the soul with songs that resonate as deeply as ancient hymns.”

US singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell says: “What I love about Sharon’s songs is that they are such a unique expression of her, but they are really every person’s songs. What I mean is that anyone can place themselves inside them.”

Collaborations include writing and performing with artists such as electronic duos Orbital and 1 Giant Leap, amongst others. Sharon also appeared in an early staging of the Broadway musical Hadestown alongside Ani Difranco and Martin Carthy. Most recently Sharon’s song Music Is The Light was sampled by Australian band The Avalanches and features on their new album We Will Always Love You.

crack*a*jack*crow is a storytelling and songwriting duo that has come together from the shores of the United States to Brighton. With a minimalist approach to composition; the duo seek to express experiential storytelling through experimental songwriting.
The fusion between the duo’s American Blues/Jazz background and English Pop/Folk roots are strangely emotive.

Influences range from Randy Newman, Leonard Cohen, Elvis Costello, Sarah Vaughn, Tom Waits and Billie Holiday to name a few.
