Saturday Sessions: Amusette
Free live music in the Ropetackle foyer this Spring!
Taking place on the second Saturday of each month – from 1-3pm, we have an eclectic range of local performers ready to entertain you with their wonderful music.
This month features Amusette- a duo from the wilds of Wiltshire, Brian Tilley and Penny Birnstingl play the traditional music of Central France, Brittany, Scandinavia and British Isles on a variety of instruments, some familiar and some rarely seen. Amusette play for music festivals, weddings and other special occassions, as well as concerts and dances.
Instruments are the Grande Cornemuse (bagpipes) from Central France, which come in several sizes, and can be played in various combinations, Hurdy Gurdies, which come from the same region and Concertinas and Accordion.
Behind all the music there are poignant and amusing stories to be told about the music, the instruments, the dances and musicians, and as you will hear, these form an important part of the programmes.
Amusette have an ongoing project to play their bagpipes in all the churches in Wiltshire. Not an easy task, but a wonderful way to visit little known parts of the County!
