Purcell’s Muse: An Evening Of Baroque Music
Thursday 29th June 2017 -
Supremely virtuoso and deeply moving music from the baroque era.
Ana Maria Rincon (soprano), Julia Bishop (violin) and Howard Beach (harpsichord) perform music by three giants of their time: Handel, Purcell and Bach. Joined by special guest, the UK’s leading concert guitarist Richard Durrant.
The programme includes the ever beautiful ‘Ombra mai Fu’, the vocal fireworks of ‘Tornami a Vagghegia’ and ‘Alleluja’ (Handel), and two short suites from Dido and Aeneas and The Fairy Queen (Purcell). Five movements from Bach’s sonatas for violin and harpsichord showcase his genius, along with the tragic, yet sublime ‘Aus Liebe’ from the Matthew Passion.
