Portrait of a Space: The Life of Roland Penrose

Saturday 6th October 2018 - Starts 4pm

TICKET PRICE: £10

A drama for six voices set to images, written and devised by Antony Penrose.

A Portrait of Space tells the story of the life of Roland Penrose using words mostly written or spoken by him and his friends. We learn of Penrose’s love of the three key women in his life and his passion as a Surrealist artist. The Surrealist heyday of the 1920s is halted by World War 2. After the war, Roland rose to prominence as Picasso’s leading biographer and curator. He and Lee Miller made their home in Sussex at Farley Farm where he died in 1984, still making his famous collages.

A Portrait of Space is the sequel to Antony Penrose’s highly-acclaimed and award-winning work on his mother, The Angel and The Fiend.
