Meet The Author: Mark Haddon
Monday 27th March 2017 -
Unfortunately this event has been cancelled due to a family illness. We send Mark our best wishes.
Mark Haddon, author of The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, launches his new book The Pier Falls.
The Pier Falls is the first collection of stories from Mark Haddon, one of the UK’s most loved and celebrated writers. Foreboding, violent and surprising, this highly acclaimed collection explores darker territory than his previous fiction. A seaside pier collapses. A thirty-stone man is confined to his living room. An expedition to Mars goes terribly wrong. A man shoots a stranger in the chest on Christmas Eve.
Demonstrating that he is a master of the short form, Mark Haddon showcases stories of urban realism, science fiction, classical myth and more. Superb, gripping and vividly unsettling, The Pier Falls is about what lies beyond our control; it is ‘a virtuoso piece of writing’ (The Observer).
Mark Haddon is an author, illustrator and screenwriter who has written fifteen books for children and won two BAFTAs. The title story of this collection was longlisted for the Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award and ‘Bunny’ was runner up in the BBC National Short Story Award. His bestselling novel, The Curious Incident Of The Dog In The Night-Time, was published in 2003. It won seventeen literary prizes, including the Whitbread Award. His poetry collection, The Talking Horse & The Sad Girl & The Village Under The Sea, was published in 2005, his play Polar Bears was staged at the Donmar Warehouse in 2010 and his last novel, The Red House, was published in 2012.
Presented by City Books. This special evening will include a reading, Q&A and book signing.
