Jazz Breakfast With Mike Hatchard (June)
A tribute to Chet Baker.
This month Mike is joined by Ian Smith, a masterful trumpet player with a passion for Chet Baker; one of the most revered and troubled jazz musicians of all time. His early career has been described as ‘like James Dean, Sinatra and Bix rolled into one’. His drug habit has been well publicised – Baker was in and out of jail frequently, a lifestyle that contrasts so profoundly with the lyrical nature of his playing. But it is on the latter we concentrate here, with Mike Hatchard taking the vocals and Ian Smith faithfully replicating Chet’s dulcet tones. Also, add to the mix the brilliant young Swiss tenor player Luca Stoll who plays a superbly lyrical and swinging style reminiscent of Zoot, Stan Getz and Al Cohn.
Pastries and cakes will be available to purchase.
