Dare
With special guest Troy Redfern.
UK rock band Dare are set to return with their highly anticipated 10th studio album Road to Eden released by Legend Records on 1 April 2022. To support the release, they are embarking on a 12-date UK tour in October 2022, including an exclusive show at Ropetackle.
Dare is best known for their frontman singer songwriter Darren Wharton who first rose to fame in the early eighties playing keyboards with legendary Irish rock band Thin Lizzy. From the tender age of 17, Darren went on to record the famous Chinatown album with Philip Lynott, Scott Gorham, Snowy White (Pink Floyd) and Brian Downey.
After four great years of playing alongside Phil Lynott, Scott Gorham, Brian Downey and Whitesnake’s John Sykes, Thin Lizzy disbanded. Darren returned to Manchester where he began to write, sing, and produce his own songs. After recruiting young guitarist, Vinny Burns, it wasn’t long before Darren’s new band Dare were getting noticed by the major labels, and in 1987 they signed to A&M records.
In 1988, Dare recorded their debut album Out of the Silence and soon earned themselves a cult following throughout Europe, opening for Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page, Gary Moore, and Swedish rockers Europe. Since then, they have released a further nine albums and toured the world.
After a few breaks and changes in line-up, Dare have continued to record and perform up to the present, celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2018.
2022 album Road to Eden is destined to be a modern Dare classic, featuring a harder rock edge than previous albums, while still retaining the atmospheric sound and anthemic melodies that has become the band’s signature trademark.
Line-up: Darren Wharton (vocals, keyboards), Vinny Burns (guitars), Nigel Clutterbuck (bass guitar), Kev Whitehead (drums), and Marc Roberts (keyboards).
