Belfast
North Belfast, August 1969. The Troubles erupt and a terraced street of mixed residents is attacked by a group of Protestants. The Protestant family of Buddy (Jude Hall), a nine-year-old boy caught up in the turmoil of the nascent Troubles, is pressured to support the violence but his father resists. Amid rising tensions and a family loss, the family must decide where their future lies.
Kenneth Branagh’s autobiographical drama recalls a turning point in his family’s life and his unsparing and unforgiving attitude towards Protestant bigotry makes a potent statement in this brilliant film.
Also starring Jamie Dornan, Ciaran Hinds, Caitriona Balfe and Judi Dench
