Barnstormers Comedy Easter Extravaganza at the Ropetackle Arts Centre in Shoreham-by-Sea
The April Barnstormers Comedy show takes place on Easter Saturday. So if you’re looking to add laughs to the long weekend (not to mention, two days to recover), we’re here to provide.
Longstanding Barnstormers Comedy MC Kevin Precious (pictured) will be on hand to introduce three more top acts from the London Comedy Comedy Circuit and beyond. This month, they comprise: excellent observational stand-up Paul Ricketts, ‘Weird and wonderful… Ricketts should be given his own TV show’ – The Stage; erudite Kiwi Matt Stellingwerf, ‘Matt utterly stole the show on Saturday! He’s an outstanding act’ – Comedy Cafe; and the twinkley eyed raconteur that is Paddy Lennox, ‘Simply a scream’ – The Telegraph.
Paul Ricketts is an award-winning comic who since 2005 has been entertaining audiences across the UK and beyond. Since starting as an MC in his own London Comedy Club, Paul has developed into a much sought after performer on the comedy circuit. His intelligent humour focuses not only on sharp observations from life, but also racial, cultural and satirical subjects, intermingled with strange tales of ordinary madness. Sometimes silly, serious or surreal, sometimes autobiographical, political or near the knuckle – but always funny!
Paul is in demand as an MC and act in prestigious London venues like the Comedy Store (London & Manchester), Comedy Café, Banana Cabaret, Outside The Box, Downstairs At The Kings Head, Bearcat Comedy, Falling Down With Laughter, Hampstead Comedy Club, Crack Comedy Clubs and Brixton Comedy, as well as The Stand, Highlight, Jongleurs, Barnstormers Comedy, The Comedy Club Ltd, Off The Kerb Clubs, Alan Anderson Ha Ha Comedy, Funhouse Comedy Clubs, Just The Tonic (London & Nottingham), Glee Comedy Clubs, Frog & Bucket, Manchester, Gagging For Laughs, Growling Clown Clubs, Buzz Comedy Clubs, Last Minute Comedy Clubs and Mirth Control comedy clubs across the UK.
‘Material is smart as well as funny – The Scotsman
‘Weird and wonderful… should be given his own TV show’ – The Stage
‘Distinctive and extraordinary’ – Fringe Guru
‘Highly accomplished’ – Time Out
‘Excels as a natural story-teller’ – Three Weeks
‘Weaving the naturally comedic with both the ridiculous and the poignant’ – Remote Goat
Matt Stellingwerf is a fast rising star on the international comedy scene, and highly regarded by his peers. Matt has won four NZ Comedy Guild Awards, been nominated for several others, and was nominated as Best Newcomer at the 2014 NZ International Comedy Festival.
Matt was a 2015 & 2016 nominee for the prestigious Billy T Award. A renowned MC and compere, Matt is a 3-time nominee for Best MC in New Zealand.
Hamilton-born and Wanganui-raised farmer’s son and trained criminologist, an award-winning bar fly…and genuinely lovely guy, Matt Stellingwerf is a man of contradictions.
He expertly brings these contradictions to the stage with his typical low-key style and confidence, finding the humour in topics as diverse as love, mental illness, sex, drugs, and this crazy interview he once conducted with a serial killer on Death Row!
Matt now brings a worldview inspired by alcoholic shearing gangs, bizarre Dutch relatives, and criminological theory to the stage and attempts to answer some of life’s enduring mysteries. So come along, grab a brew and have a laugh!
He has toured extensively, performing throughout NZ, Australia, the USA & the United Kingdom.
On television you may have seen him on Maori TV’s Crack Up, Rhys Darby’s Short Poppies, TV3’s AotearoHA: Rising Stars and getting shot with a crossbow in a strip club on TV ONE’s Coverband.
‘Raises the comedy bar…and erudite satire superstar’ – Theatreview
‘Matt Stellingwerf’s show Bachelor of Arts left me feeling vindicated as an educated liberal; empowered as a woman; confused over my personal level of racism; and disappointed with the lack of lateral thinking I approached my tertiary studies with. Stellingwerf’s comedy is intelligent, clever and thoroughly researched…all the while being really likeable’ – Libel
‘…an intellectual ‘Fonze’…extremely laid back and relaxed with the audience, seamlessly having banter and keeping his cool’ – Keeping Up With NZ
Paddy Lennox is a stand-up comedian and actor.
He has worked at The Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre with Mark Rylance, slipped off this mortal coil in Holby City and been pulled faces in many television commercials across the EU.
Paddy earns a crust on the UK Comedy Circuit and plays all the great clubs: The Comedy Store, Jongleurs, The Glee Club, The Stand, Barnstormers and many other clubs.
He lives in Hertfordshire and runs The Great Dunmow Comedy Club.
‘A scream…’ – The Telegraph
‘Northern Irishman Paddy Lennox has some extremely funny material. I’m sure this guy has a great future’ – one4review.com****
‘Paddy Lennox, who not only does a great job rousing the audience but whose gentle Irish lilt belies a mischievous sense of humour. Comedy the way it should be: a laugh-a-minute which leaves the audience wishing the show was just a little bit longer’ – Fest Mag
