We’re recruiting for a new Centre Manager to take the reins and lead “one of the most vibrant arts venues in Sussex” (Latest Brighton).
Current Centre Manager Mark Phillips is moving on to new pastures, and we’re on the look out for a passionate, dynamic, hands-on individual to lead Ropetackle into an exciting new stage of its development, including supporting our ambition to become an NPO, and plans for major refurbishment of the Centre.
Ropetackle is a registered charity run by a Board of unpaid Trustees, a small team of dedicated staff, and a happy band of 80+ volunteers.
Mark said: “Ropetackle is an incredible venue, and I’ve enjoyed every second of my time as Centre Manager. Ropetackle is a special place to work, with supportive Trustees, dedicated staff, and inspirational volunteers. This is a rare opportunity to play a central role at Adur’s multi-award winning arts and community hub.”
Since opening in 2007, it has become established as one of the leading arts venues in the south of England, attracting audiences in excess of 40,000 per year, and winning numerous awards including most recently the 2023 Adur and Worthing Business Award for Hospitality, Tourism, and Leisure.
Mark adds: “The role is diverse, fulfilling, exciting, and challenging – in the right way! It would suit someone with strong organisational and interpersonal skills, and who enjoys working in a fast pace, dynamic environment – you’ll be managing a busy calendar and working with a lot of people.”
Ropetackle offers a year-round programme of live events and activities, as well as a range of community projects. From top comics to rock legends, bestselling authors to magical panto, Ropetackle brings local, national, and international artists to West Sussex.
This is your opportunity to play a key part in Ropetackle’s story.

A hands-on manager with a can-do attitude, who leads by example. Someone with a passion for the arts, who is naturally self-motivated and able to motivate others.
Candidates should have excellent time-management skills and the ability to prioritise diverse and competing tasks. A calm approach in a busy customer-facing environment is essential.
Candidates should also have leadership skills and experience of managing an arts venue or similar organisation.
