Saved – thanks to you!

We are thrilled to be able to deliver great news; thanks to the generosity of our wonderful supporters, and with funding now agreed by Adur Council, the doors of Ropetackle Arts Centre will remain open in 2020.

The Ropetackle 2020 appeal has now exceeded its target, the current amount pledged approaching £40,000, with donations continuing.Ropetackle 2020 logo

Martin Allen, chair of Ropetackle Trust said:
“Our target of £30,000 from the Ropetackle 2020 community appeal was set in the expectation that we would also receive £20,000 from Adur Council – totalling a minimum of £50,000 a year additional funding to enable us to continue.

“The Council has made it clear that it strongly supports Ropetackle and has now committed to 3 years’ funding, which is hugely welcome. The Council funding is subject to certain agreed
conditions, including delivery of various community activities and also to make certain changes to our governance, including recruiting new trustees – both of which we had been intending anyway.

“On the basis of this remarkable support, and with certain other measures we are taking to generate revenue and improve profitability, we are not only in a strong enough position to continue to operate but we also now have a sound platform for applying to boost our funding going forward (e.g. from the Arts Council and other funding bodies).”

Support of the community

Martin continued: “The level of Ropetackle 2020 donations has demonstrated the value of Ropetackle to the community and to our audiences. What is important is that we are able to rely upon continuing community funding as a key element of our revenue. It is hugely gratifying that so many donors have agreed to such continuity by way of direct debit. We very much hope that as many people as possible will commit to such ongoing support.

“As part of our planned strategic review of Ropetackle’s future direction, we will be inviting you, in November, to a meeting when we will ask you for your input. It will also be an opportunity for us to give our heart-felt thanks to all those who have made donations.

“On behalf of myself and my co-trustees, may I thank you all for your invaluable support. Without you, we wouldn’t be here! Now that we know we have survived, we will shortly be starting to look for candidates to join our board of trustees. Details will appear on our website and in the media shortly.”

An asset to Adur

Council Leader, Neil Parkin said: “We have always been supportive of the Ropetackle and want to see it succeed in the long run.
“Now we have assurances over how the venue will be managed moving forward we will look to move swiftly to release these funds with an urgent item coming forward to next week’s Joint Strategic Committee.

“I sincerely hope the funding will support the ongoing prosperity of this well-supported and much-loved venue which – as the incredible response to the crowdfunding appeal shows – contributes an enormous amount to our area.

“Thanks to the Ropetackle Trustees for their dedication and efforts in making Ropetackle such an essential asset of Adur”.

Exciting events will be announced soon for 2020, but for now please keep buying tickets for our great winter programme – not forgetting our fantastic Shoreham Panto!
