Opera Gala

A very special gala evening featuring local opera professionals including Yvonne Patrick and talented pianist Lesley-Anne Sammons.

The evening will feature a quartet of top Opera performers who have all performed in the world’s leading Opera houses and concert halls.  They are led by soprano Yvonne Patrick who was a member of the D’Oyly Carte Company and later a regular at Glyndebourne. They will be accompanied on the piano by the virtuosic Lesley-Anne Sammons.

It will be an evening of well-known arias, duets and ensembles from the world of Opera and the lighter side of classical music.

The first half of the concert will include the “Brindisi” from La Traviata, the “Soave sia il vento” trio from Mozart’s Cosi fan Tutte,  the “Barcarolle” from The Tales of Hoffman, Puccini’s aria “O mio babbino caro”, made famous from the film ‘A Room with a View’, and The Pearlfishers’ duet.

A lighter tone for the second half will include “Summertime” from Porgy and Bess, “Maria” and “Tonight” from West Side Story, the Merry Widow waltz and songs from the world of Rodgers and Hammerstein, Gilbert and Sullivan and Ivor Novello.

A must for lovers of good music and also those who’d like an introduction to the wonderful world of Opera.
