A two-part lecture series with former Brighton Housing Trust Director Jenny Backwell.
Land is necessary as a place to live, to grow food, to pursue leisure, to derive an income, to hunt or farm on; it is wanted for defence, for power. Yet the power of landownership, (individual, corporate or by a state) is seldom analysed or discussed. Why?
Part two of the series tonight examines land-grabs: how powerful corporations and states (including he UK) create food shortages, homelessness and poverty, and not just in developing countries. What are the consequences for all of us?
