MAD MAN: FROM THE GOLDSTONE TO THE AMEX
The ad man who saved Brighton & Hove Albion.
Dick Knight tells the inspirational story of how he rescued the Albion from immediate extinction. How he took over the club after the Goldstone had been sold and began the long and tortuous battle to find a new home.
After ground sharing with Gillingham and playing at their ‘temporary’ home at the Withdean Athletics Stadium, John Prescott finally announced on 28 October 2005 that the application for a new stadium at Falmer had been successful – much to the joy and relief of all fans.
A fifteen year struggle, that had seen the homeless Seagulls fight for their very survival, was at an end. The triumphant opening of the award winning Amex Stadium was in 2011.
This is the inside story of a saga that captured the hearts and minds of football supporters up and down the country. Supporters of Brighton & Hove Albion will be eternally grateful to the ‘Mad Man’.
